We know that traditions and gatherings will be different this year from the past. We also know that despite the challenges of 2020, it is good for us to pause, acknowledge, and celebrate our many blessings. Studies have shown that people and families that practice gratitude are also more likely to pay it forward and be more helpful and generous. Our faith teaches us that gratitude and generosity, modeled for us by Jesus, are major components of a well-lived life.
It is in this spirit that we invite you to participate in a school-wide event to help those in our community in need of support. Many of you are aware of St. Joseph’s Home in Palatine run by the Little Sisters of the Poor. Holy Family has a long history of supporting St. Joseph’s Home. As you may recall, in past years we were able to donate 30-50 pounds of unopened food per week from our cafeteria to St. Joseph’s. The Little Sisters of the Poor rely heavily on donations from wholesale markets and local restaurants to help lower the cost of caring for their 100 residents, and at this time, they are in need of food and other items.
We are asking each family to donate what they can to help St. Joseph’s. Listed below are those items they are most in need of replenishing. You may also visit their wish list on their website. We will be collecting the donations at drop-off from December 1 through December 18.
Thank you in advance for your generosity. Given our past collections through our annual Scavenger Hunt for the Hungry we are optimistic that we can collect enough food to re-stock St. Joseph’s pantry.
While you hear us say it often, we are so blessed to be part of this unbelievable community of dedicated teachers, eager students, and supportive parents.
