Mission Statements Guide Decisions at HFCA

Mission Statements Guide Decisions at HFCAMission statements provide a path forward and guide decisions within an organization. Recently, Mrs. Colleen Biere, HFCA IB Coordinator, showed the alignment between the International Baccalaureate Organization’s and HFCA’s mission statement (see below). In summary, both organizations are dedicated to encouraging students to become active leaders, inquiring thinkers, and compassionate global citizens who understand that other people, though different, add value to our world.

Consistent with these mission statements, we are pleased to announce the addition of two new interns at HFCA–Miss Rachel Giagnorio and Miss Lindsey Pazerunas.

By way of background, Fr. Terry and I recently met with representatives from Teaching Together Chicago, a partnership of Chicago-area Catholic Schools, Teaching Together DC, and the Coleman Foundation. Teaching Together works to expand employment opportunities in Catholic schools for adults with disabilities. As interns, these capable adults assist teachers and office staff with clerical or classroom duties.

At my previous school, I was involved in a similar partnership with Misericordia and have missed the enrichment that came from that relationship. I was thrilled to begin working with Teaching Together and recently hired Rachel and Lindsey, both life-long parishioners of Holy Family and friends of HFCA.

Rachel, age 25, (on right) is the daughter of Margaret Giagnorio, 2-year-old preschool teacher at HFCA, and Lindsey, age 22, (top photo) has been a frequent volunteer in Margaret’s class. Rachel will be assisting Mrs. Breen in the Art Room and working in the school office, and Lindsey will be working with Mrs. Henry and Mrs. Brinckerhoff in first grade.

I truly believe that the students, faculty, and staff of HFCA benefit as much from this relationship as Rachel and Lindsey. I was so touched when Margaret shared her family’s excitement about the program saying, “We are so happy that Rachel has been given the opportunity to intern in such a caring and progressive school where they celebrate each person’s special God given gifts.”

Please join us in welcoming Rachel and Lindsey to our HFCA staff!
