Uniform Policy


Uniforms

Holy Family Catholic Academy strives to create an environment that is conducive to learning and reflective of our core Christian values. The uniform policy is intended to reflect a positive image of students and our school, and :

  • instill a sense of belonging; visually reflecting our belief that all children are treated with equal respect.
  • provide an orderly environment that focuses attention on academics rather than fashion.
  • simplify the lives of our children and their families in a cost effective manner.

Uniforms may be ordered from Dennis Uniform (800) 854-6951 or www.dennisuniform.com or purchased from a retailer of your choice provided that the clothing is in compliance with the uniform policy.  Gently used uniforms are also available for through our Parent Association.

Holy Family Catholic Academy’s Uniform Policy includes:

  • 1) General Guidelines,
  • 2) Mass Uniform (Grades K-8),
  • 3) Standard Uniform (Grades K-5)
  • 4) Standard Uniform (Grades 6-8)
  • 5) Gym Uniform (Grades 5-8)
  • 6) Out of Uniform and Spirit Wear

General Uniform Guidelines

  • Standard Uniform applies to most school days. Mass Uniform applies to days students attend Mass, generally Wednesdays and Holy Days.
  • All shoes must have heels and toes covered. For safety reasons, children are not to wear clogs, sandals, flip flops, heels, “Crocs,”  high top sneakers, platform shoes, or fashion boots. Students in K-8 may not wear shoes that have LED lights or other options that light.
  • Days when Mass Uniform is indicated shoes must be black, brown, navy blue, or dark grey.
  • All outerwear clothing such as boots, jackets, hats or other head covering must be removed during the school day.
  • Socks must be worn at all times – students may wear solid white, black,blue or red socks. Girls may wear socks or tights in these colors.
  • All references to the color red are meant to be the primary color red.
  • Uniform shirts may be worn with or without HFCA logo.
  • Girls’ skirt length must not be shorter than 3 inches above the knee.
  • No decorative or contrasting-colored trim, patches, or logos except for the HFCA logo may be worn.
  • Shirts and blouses must be worn tucked in.
  • Students may not wear cargo style pants or shorts, leggings or “jegging” style pants or shorts.
  • Students may wear post-style earrings only.
  • Extreme hairstyles (such as Mohawks or faux hawks), dyes, color, or cuts are not acceptable.
  • Make-up is not to be worn during school hours.
  • Proper undergarments should be worn and not visible.
  • Please label all uniform clothing and outerwear.
  • Suitability of clothing for school is subject to the judgment and discretion of the school staff. Exceptions to the Uniform Policy will be made based on specific students’ needs, on a case-by-case basis, and at the discretion and approval of the Principal.

Mass Uniform (Kindergarten through Middle School)–to be worn on days students attend Mass (Wednesdays and Holy Days) and on requested field trip days.

Boys:

  • Long, solid navy blue uniform pants.
  • Beginning in third grade, boys must wear solid navy blue, brown, or black leather braided or dress belt.
  • Solid white dress shirt or white knit polo shirt, with or without the HFCA logo.
  • Solid white, black, or navy blue socks.
  • Solid navy blue or white, v-neck cardigan sweater or sweater vest, with or without the HFCA logo.
  • Navy blue, brown, or black solid color dress shoes or solid color navy blue, brown, or black gym shoes. Tie shoes should have solid navy blue, brown, or black (matching) shoelaces. Kindergarten students are exempt from the restrictions on shoe colors, and may wear gym shoes on full uniform days.
  • Sweatshirts and turtlenecks are not considered part of a “full uniform.”
  • Solid navy blue tie is optional.

Girls:

  • Plaid uniform jumper. Length should be no shorter than 3” above the knee.
  • Beginning in third grade, girls may wear a plaid uniform skirt in place of the jumper. Length should be no shorter than 3” above the knee.
  • White dress uniform blouse with collar, or white knit polo shirt, with or without the HFCA logo.
  • Solid white or navy blue socks or tights.
  • Solid navy blue or white collarless cardigan sweater, with or without the HFCA logo.
  • Navy blue, brown, or black solid color dress shoes or solid color navy blue, brown, or black gym shoes; or saddle shoes with white laces. Tie shoes should have solid navy blue, brown, or black (matching) shoelaces. Kindergarten students are exempt from the restrictions on shoe colors, and may wear gym shoes on full uniform days.
  • Sweatshirts and turtlenecks are not considered part of a “full uniform.”
  • Hair accessories should be in school plaid, solid navy blue, or white only.

Standard School Uniform – Kindergarten through 5th Grade – All other days beside Mass Days

Boys:

  • Solid navy blue dress pants or shorts Shorts length should be at least mid-thigh, and may be worn in warm weather conditions.
  • Solid white or red polo shirt or turtleneck, with or without the HFCA logo. Solid white button down shirts are also acceptable.
  • Solid white, red, or navy blue cardigan; v-neck or crew neck sweater; or v-neck sweater vest.
  • Solid red or navy blue Holy Family Catholic Academy sweatshirt or fleece.

Girls:

  • Uniform plaid jumpers or skirts.
  • Solid navy blue dress pants (no skinny pants), shorts, skirts, jumper, and skorts. Shorts may be worn in warm weather conditions.
  • Solid white or red polo shirt or turtlenecks. Solid white button down shirts are also acceptable. Solid white, red, or navy blue cardigan; v-neck or crew neck sweater or v-neck sweater vest.
  • Solid red or navy blue Holy Family Catholic Academy sweatshirt or fleece with the HFCA logo.
  • On Physical Education days, girls in grades K-3 should wear navy blue gym shorts under their jumpers or skirts, or wear skorts, shorts, or long pants.

 

Standard School Uniform Middle School (grades 6-8)

Boys:

  • Solid navy or khaki dress pants or shorts.
  • White, red, light blue or navy polo shirts or turtlenecks. White and light blue button down shirts are also acceptable.
  • Solid white, red, or navy blue cardigan; v-neck or crew neck sweater or v-neck sweater vest.
  • Solid red or navy blue Holy Family Catholic Academy sweatshirt or fleece jacket with the HFCA logo.

Girls:

  • Solid navy or khaki dress pants, shorts, skirts, or skorts.
  • White, red, light blue or navy polo shirts or turtlenecks. White and light blue button down shirts are also acceptable.
  • Solid white, red, or navy blue cardigan; v-neck or crew neck sweater or v-neck sweater vest.
  • Solid red or navy blue Holy Family Catholic Academy sweatshirt or fleece with the HFCA logo.

Cold Weather****On cold weather days, girls may wear sweatpants or leggings underneath their uniform skirt to recess. Once inside the building sweatpants must be removed. However, students may wear knit tights.

Gym Uniforms

Students in grades 5 – 8 will be required to change into gym uniforms for physical education classes.  The  gym uniform can only be purchased through Dennis Uniforms (www.dennisuniforms.com) and consists of:

  • Navy blue gym shorts with HFCA logo and
  • Navy blue, white, or red t-shirt with HFCA logo.
  • No other gym attire will be acceptable.

Non-uniform and Spirit Wear Days, Special Occasions (HFCA Entertains You, School Pictures)

Selected days throughout the school year may be designated as spirit wear or non-uniform days for a specific class or for the entire school.  The guidelines are as follows:

  • Spirit wear includes clothing that is red, white or blue (HFCA school colors) and clothing purchased through our Spirit wear provider.
  • Jeans, other pants, and shorts (including track/athletic pants and mesh material pants) must be clean; properly fitting; and not torn, ripped, or frayed. Jeans, other pants, and shorts must fit to the natural waist, and not ride lower than the top of the hipbones.
  • Yoga pants, leggings or jeggings must be worn with a shirt that reaches the wrist or longer for modesty (when arms are fully extended to the side). The following are inappropriate:
    • Revealing clothing such as bare midriffs, bare backs, spaghetti straps, tank tops, see-through fabrics, low-cut tops, low-riding pants, short shorts, cheer shorts, or short skirts.
    • Clothing with inappropriate slogans or pictures, including but not limited to depictions of drugs, alcohol, tobacco, gangs, vulgar language, or violence;
    • Sweat pants (made of sweatshirt/jersey knit material) or pajama bottom/jam pants.
